Description
This is a presentable
"Cinqve"
or Five Lire note from the
"Regno D'Italia"
or Kingdom of Italy. It is dated 1940, during the period Italy was suffering the rule of
"Il Duce"
or Benito Mussolini.
World War II began in September of 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. Mussolini and Italy stayed out of it at first but after he saw the Germans march into Paris Mussolini declared war on Britain and France. That was on June 10, 1940.

Fasces: The symbol of sovereignty, a Fasces was a bundle of rods tied with cords, that dates back to ancient Rome. Roman Magistrates would be escorted through the crowds by a group of Lictors carrying Fasces. In the city itself the Fasces had no Axe Blade. It was only inserted outside the city when the Magistrate was endowed with
“Imperium”
. This was the official power of the Senate and People of Rome and not all Magistrates had it. It meant that the Magistrate had the power of life and death in his hands. Members of the College of Lictors were almost the only civil servants of Rome. The Magistrate could instruct a Lictor to unbundle his Rods and whip an unruly citizen.
The Note:
A lightly wounded veteran, it has a single small edge tear and a single pinhole but retains some crispness. It will be sent in a new currency holder that protects it. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
